Collections

This body of work comprises of installations of objects and cases where the contents are partially or fully absent; a series of large acrylic paintings and drawings depicting the microscopic physical trace of a life; and a series of mixed media work on paper inspired by Hazel’s own figurative collection.

She is  inspired by the home of her late grandfather, an antique dealer, where she developed a curiosity for these once loved items and began to search for a narrative. Looking through boxes of objects, letters and photographs brought at auctions, she became aware of the simplification of a person when they are summed up in terms of inanimate objects. Hazel is also fascinated by the idea of collecting and collections and the meaning and purpose it gives to an existence.
